1.Waterford Early Learning

Waterford Early Learning is our K-2 reading, math and science curriculum. Reading and Math & Science each start with a placement test that determines the starting point for the curriculum based on the student’s needs.

Waterford Early Learning includes following key components:

  • Waterford Manager where teachers and administrators manage accounts and view data and reports.
  • Waterford Student Portal where students can access the curriculum at school or at home.
  • Classroom Advantage, Waterford’s classroom tool that allows teachers to create whole-class or small-group activities with full access to the Waterford activity library.

All help content related to Waterford Early Learning can be found here. Some features, like Dashboards or Classroom Advantage, have additional guides that go into further detail, including walk-through video instructions. This guide will give you an overview of the entire Waterford Early Learning K-2 product with links to additional in-depth content where it is available.

Curriculet (Waterford’s independent reading product) and SmartStart (Waterford’s Pre-K product) have their own help guides. If you are using those products, go back to the home page and select the guide for that product.

1.1.Finding Content in the Help Guides

If you haven’t already, check out the quick video walk through for the help site. This shows you how to quickly find, navigate, and search information. On the main help page, click Get Started. On the Welcome to Waterford’s New Help Site video, click play.

Help Guides are topic based, step-by-step instructions. As we add new features, we may create help documentation in existing guides or create new guides. If you are looking for help, look at the list of available guides and choose the one that best matches your needs. If you aren’t sure, you can use the site-wide search tool on the home page.

You can see which Help Guide you are in by scrolling to the top header. Below is an example of the header for the Reports Help Guide. Search within a guide to limit results to that guide only. This is helpful, for example, if you know you need information on a specific section like Reports or Dashboards and don’t want to sift through unrelated search results.

You can also download and print the entire guide as a PDF if you want to have a an offline or paper copy.

The content on help site updates along with the product. If you do decide to use PDF versions of guides, make sure you create new ones after a software update. (Go to Updates on the top of the home page to see all recent updates.)

2.Waterford Manager for Teachers

Teachers can perform the following tasks in Waterford Manager:

  • Manually add student accounts
  • Add and delete classes
    Your administrator may limit your access to your class only. If this is the case, you will not be able to add or delete classes.
  • Assign courses
  • Add custom assignments
  • Manage in-school and at-home sessions
  • Search activities
  • View data in reports and dashboards
  • Help students launch the Student Portal

This guide is an overview of the most common tasks, but all of the above are explained in greater detail in the Manager for Teachers guide.

2.1.Log In

  1. Go to manager.waterford.org.
    Use Google Chrome for best results.
  2. Enter your username and password.
    Your username is usually your email. Contact your administrator if you do not know your username or password.
  3. Click Log In.

2.1.1.Log in: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Log in section for additional help on first time logging in, resetting your password, and adding a missing email address.

2.2.Edit Profile

Edit your profile to change your password, username, or security question.

  • Only an administrator can change your Product Licenses or Access Level.
  1. Go to manager.waterford.org and log in.
  2. In the top right corner, click your name.

  3. Click the text boxes to change your Name, Email, Phone, or Username.
  4. Click Save.
    If you do not enter an email, you will be reminded to each time you log in.
  5. If you changed your Email or your Security Information, a message box will warn you that you will need to log in to the manager again. Click Save to continue, or click Cancel to undo your changes.
  6. Log in again.

2.2.1.Edit Profile: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Edit Profile section for additional help on changing your password and resetting your security question.

2.3.Add Classes

Administrators can create classes for any school in the district. Teachers may only create classes if their access level for the school is set to All. Only an administrator can change a teacher’s access level. Learn more about changing access levels here.

If you are an administrator, you can use the student import to create classes. Learn more.
  1. Go to Students.
  2. In the left menu, select a school.
  3. Click Create Class.
  4. Enter the information.
    Leave the SIS ID and SIS Name fields blank. These fields are for users that sync their data using Clever.
  5. Click Save or, if you want to continue adding classes, Save and New.

2.3.1.Add Classes: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Add Classes section for a video walk-through on adding classes.

2.4.Students

This guide shows you how to add, edit, delete, and restore student accounts manually through Waterford Manager.

  • Student accounts can also be added and updated by administrators with our import tool or through syncing your school information system (SIS) using Clever.
    If your school or district uses Clever to sync the Manager to your SIS, you cannot add or edit student accounts using Waterford’s Manager.
  • See Manager for Administrators for instructions on import and sync.

2.4.1.Add a new student

  1. Go to Students.
  2. Expand the student’s school and select the class where you want the student added.
  3. Click Create.
  4. Enter the student’s information.
    Adding a picture makes it easier for students to start their sessions.
  5. Click Save.

2.4.2.Custom Assignments

You can assign activities as custom assignments to play at the beginning of a student’s session. They are not scored and do not affect the student’s regular personalized learning sequence. Once the student has completed the custom assignment, the activity is removed from the list and the student resumes sessions in his or her sequence.

    1. Go to Students.
    2. To add a custom assignment to an entire class, select your class. To add a custom assignment to one student, select the student.
    3. Click Custom Assignments.

    4. Select a course tab.

      You will only see multiple tabs if students in your class are assigned to multiple courses. You can only add custom assignments from a student’s assigned course.
    5. Click Add Assignments.
    6. Enter the activity name or keywords in the search bar. Click Search.
      There are no search filters in this section. If you don’t know the name of the activity you need, use the search tools in the Curriculum tab.
    7. Find the activity in the table. Click the play button to preview the activity. Click the + button on the right to add it as a custom assignment.

To view, reorder, or remove custom assignments

  1. Go to Students.
  2. Select the student or class.
  3. Click Custom Assignments.
    If you are adding or searching assignments, click View Assignments to return back to this view.
  4. To make changes, click the check box next to an assignment.
  5. Use the Move up, Move down, and Delete Assignment buttons to change custom assignments.

 

 

2.4.3.Students: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Students section for additional help on assigning courses, changing a student’s class, and editing, deleting, and restoring student accounts.

2.5.Manage Sessions

Through Waterford Manager, you can see which students are playing sessions, turn on class rotation, and end a student’s session.

  1. Go to Students.
  2. In the menu on the right, click the name of your class.
  3. In the student table, you can see which students are currently playing a session.

2.5.1.Home Access

You may not post or distribute links or shortcuts from the manager, Student App, or parent manager to external sites or parties. Doing so is in direct violation of the license agreement.

Prepare Accounts for Home Access
Home Access must be enabled in the Waterford Manager by an administrator. When Home Access is enabled, parents automatically receive an email with a unique URL assigned to their child and setup instructions. For Home Access to work, it is required that teacher and student user accounts include email addresses, and that student accounts include an accurate birth date.

To access the Student Portal at home, the parent or guardian will be given these instructions, which are also included in the Home Access email. You can also download and print parent instructions here.

 

2.5.2.Manage Sessions: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Manage Sessions section for additional help on class rotation, ending sessions, limiting home access sessions, and sending home access activation emails to parents.

2.6.Search Activities

Use the activity search tool to find and preview activities for custom assignments and playlists. Waterford curriculum contains over 7,000 activities. To find exactly what you are looking for, use the tips below.

 

Use quote marks.

  • If you know the name of the activity or lesson, put quotation marks around it in the search bar to limit the search results. Without quotes, the search will look for activities that contain any of the search terms.

Use the filters.

  • If your search term brings up too many results, narrow them down with the filters.
  • You can also use filters to help you browse the activity library. Click Search with the search bar blank. This will bring up every activity in the selected Program (Math & Science, Reading, or SmartStart PreK). Use the filters to narrow down the results. Search for keywords once you have a better idea of what you’re looking for.
    The search tool opens with Reading selected by default. If you want to find something in Math & Science or SmartStart PreK, make sure you change the selection under Program.

Find keywords from reports and curriculum guides.

  • Use resources like skills taught guides, correlation guides, and getting started guides to get a better idea of the content available in the search.
    Find these at help.waterford.org/resources.
  • Student reports show lesson names. Search for these lesson names in quote marks to find relevant activities for your students.

2.6.1.Activities: Additional Help

In the Manager for Teachers guide, go to the Activities section for additional help on previewing activities, accessing offline materials, and adding activities to playlists.

3.Waterford Manager for Administrators

Administrators can perform the following tasks in Waterford Manager:

  • First-time setup
  • Import student, class, and staff accounts
  • Sync manager to your SIS with Clever
  • Enable Home Access
  • Manage student and teacher licenses
  • Determine usage goals, school year, and other settings
  • Complete all tasks available to teachers except creating and playing playlists in Classroom Advantage

This guide is an overview of the most common tasks, but all of the above is explained in greater detail in the Manager for Administrators guide.
