Waterford Reading Academy: Improving iPad Activity Performance Disabling Gestures

Improving iPad Activity Performance: Disabling Gestures for a Better Student Experience

In our ongoing commitment to creating a smooth and engaging learning experience for young learners, Waterford recommends disabling gestures on Apple iPads. Although gestures provide convenient ways to interact with iPad features, they can interfere with usability for young students.

Repeated or accidental gestures may cause activities to become unresponsive or appear "frozen." If this occurs, simply close and restart the application to continue. To reduce these disruptions and enhance the learning experience, we recommend following the instructions below to disable gestures on your device. Rest assured, we are actively working on solutions to improve this issue for a more seamless experience.

Educators can disable gestures on an iPad by following these instructions:

  1. Open Settings App
  2. Scroll to Multitasking & Gestures

  1. Under Multitasking, select Off
  2. Under Gestures: toggle all options Off
    • Productivity Gestures
    • Four & Fiver Finger Gestures
    • Shake to Undo
    • Swipe Finger from Corner

Disabling these options will prevent students from accidentally triggering gestures like swiping up with multiple fingers, making the iPad experience more straightforward for students during activities.
